Second clarinet and principal bass clarinet at the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

Spanish, born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1974.
David started his musical studies at the age of 11 with the National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela under the baton of Professor Henry Zambrano and studied Clarinet with Jorge Montilla and Rafael Toro.


In 1988 David won the position of 1st Clarinet in the Los Llanos Symphony Orchestra, with whom later he performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto Kv. 622 during a tour of various cities in Venezuela. At the same time, he took part in courses organized by the Orchestra and received classes from Valdemar Rodríguez and Jesús Márquez.
David intervened in the 2º National Festival of Young Clarinettist in 1990 and performed the Adagio of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the Simon Bolívar Symphony Orchestra with Rodolfo Saglimbeni as conductor. Also during this festival, David received classes from Luis Rossi. During this same year he participated in a course where he received classes from Paul Meyer.


After moving to Spain (in Tenerife, Canary Islands), David continued his studies in the superior Conservatoire of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Michael Kirby as his Clarinet Professor. In 1993 David was accepted as a member of the Academy of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. With this same Orchestra he has been invited numerous times to collaborate during the official season of concerts. Also in this same year, David was accepted as 1st Clarinet in the La Laguna Classical Orchestra with which he has been invited on many occasions to perform as soloist.


In 1995, David has been called to collaborate with the Galicia Symphony Orchestra.


In 1996, as part of the 9º Ciclo de Jóvenes Intérpretes Canarios, David performed Weber’s 2nd Concerto in Eb Op. 74 with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra with the conductor Roberto Túbaro. In 1997, David was invited to perform Weber’s 1st Concerto in F Op. 73 with the La Laguna Classical Orchestra under the baton of Ignacio Yepes.

Also in this same year he was accepted as reserve in the National Youth Orchestra of Spain. During this year, David received classes from Michele Carulli and Mark Witers. As part of the yearly courses sponsored by La Caixa Foundation, he also worked with Eric Hoeprich and Colin Lawson in the Classical and Romantic periods and the history of each.
In the same year, he was elected as reserve in the Youth Orchestra CAB-UNESCO, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and again in the National Youth Orchestra of Spain. The latter having invited him to take part their music course receiving classes from Antony Pay. During 1998-1999, David worked as Principal Bass Clarinet with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra for the whole season and also maintained his position as first reserve with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.


In the summer of 1999, he took part in the Chigiana Academy of Siena (Italy), music course with Antony Pay.
In 2000 he was invited as Principal Clarinet and Principal Bass Clarinet in the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester’s Easter & Summer Tour, working with Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez and Stefan Anton Reck, with whom there were various recordings made.


During 2002 David was invited twice to trial with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra as Principal Bass Clarinet. Also, he took an active part in the Master classes given by Thomas Friedli (Clarinet) and Henri Bok (Bass Clarinet) in the Conservatoire of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.


In 2004 he has been invited to play with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Philharmonia Orchestra of London. He has also very active chamber music life in the Canary Islands.
He taught at the Professional Conservatory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Superior Conservatoire of the Canary Islands and the Academy of the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra.


After collaborating actively for ten years with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, at present has the position of second clarinet and principal bass clarinet at the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.
